We all rely on our eyes to understand information. In fact, 90 percent of what we know is communicated visually. We naturally trust things that we can see or imagine, even if they’re not completely true or accurate. For example, we might think that a mechanic in greasy overalls is better at fixing cars than one in clean overalls. We believe that the greasy mechanic really got into the details and fixed our car, even though the amount of grease on his overalls doesn’t actually determine his skill.

You and I both know that 99 percent of customer problems are basically the same. But here’s the funny part: people think their situation is one-of-a-kind.

Oh boy, let me tell you, as a social media expert, I can’t even count the number of times folks have asked me, Hey, I see you’ve gotten great results in X industry, but have you ever tackled Y industry? ‘Cause you know, it’s different and all. Yup, that’s how special they think they are.

It’s funny to me because the Y industry isn’t really any different from the x industry. It all comes down to people knowing, liking, and trusting you. However, there’s a hurdle you need to overcome.

So, when you type plumber near me into Google, it will display all the plumbers who work close to your current location.

If I live in LA, I don’t want to see results for a plumber who only works in Tallahassee. It’s just not what I need.

When you have specific places where you do your work, it can really amp up the amount of people who come to those spots. It’s also super helpful to display those locations on other websites like Google +, Yelp, Trip Advisor, and social media platforms.
