10 Awesome Ways Businesses Can Make a Difference

By Ronald Smith

Today, I want to talk to you about some really cool ideas to make a positive impact in our community. As a business owner, I believe it’s important to give back and show gratitude for the support we receive. Let’s explore some creative ways we can do just that!

1. Start a mentorship program

Imagine the impact we can have by helping young minds grow and flourish. By offering mentorship programs, we can guide and inspire the next generation of talented individuals.

2. Volunteer as a team

Nothing strengthens the bond within a team more than working together for a greater cause. We can organize volunteer events where we spend a day helping out at a local charity or nonprofit organization.

3. Support local businesses

Let’s show our appreciation for our fellow entrepreneurs by sourcing our supplies and services locally. By doing so, we not only support our community, but we also reinforce the spirit of collaboration and growth.

4. Donate a percentage of profits

Why not dedicate a portion of our earnings to a cause that aligns with our values? By donating a percentage of our profits, we can contribute to organizations that are making a difference.

5. Create a scholarship

Education is a powerful tool for change. By establishing a scholarship program, we can provide opportunities for deserving students to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact on the world.

6. Launch a recycling initiative

Let’s take care of our planet together! Implementing a recycling program within our business can help reduce waste and promote environmental sustainability.

7. Sponsor a local event

By sponsoring a community event, we not only support local artists and organizations but also get our name out there. It’s a win-win situation!

8. Offer pro bono services

Sometimes, a helping hand is all that’s needed. We can offer our services for free to organizations in need, making a difference without any financial burden.

9. Launch a social media campaign

The power of social media is immense. By using our platforms to raise awareness about important social issues, we can inspire change and encourage others to get involved.

10. Create a workplace giving program

Let’s involve our employees in giving back! By creating a workplace giving program, we can collectively support causes that are close to our hearts. It’s a chance to make a difference as a team!

So there you have it, my friend! With these ten creative ideas, we have the power to make a lasting impact and create a better world. Let’s embrace the opportunity to give back and show how businesses can truly make a difference!

10 Awesome Ways Businesses Can Make a Difference

Being part of the startup community means I have a responsibility to give back, not just to other entrepreneurs, but to causes that I’m passionate about supporting.

But let’s be honest, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and lose sight of that goal. And not every startup has the means or the obligation to incorporate social good into their business model. So, how can I use my business to make a positive impact when I have limited time and resources?

I decided to reach out to some fellow entrepreneurs who are part of the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC), an exclusive organization made up of the most promising young entrepreneurs in the country. I asked them the following question:

Can you share a unique way to inspire employees to contribute to the causes they care about the most?

Here’s what the YEC community had to say:

1. Kickstart It

I gave each employee a small allowance every quarter to invest in Kickstarter projects that they believed could make a difference in the lives of hundreds, or even thousands, of people. We provided each employee with about $150 to spend on these projects, and it was truly amazing to see how they decided to allocate the funds. Some of the projects they supported included + Pool, Ghost, LowLine, Head in the Clouds, and many others. ~ Scott Ferreira, MySocialCloud

2. Leading by Example

I am deeply involved in my community. I share my experiences and encourage my team members to join me in upcoming events. I also ensure that I support my co-workers in their own events. Philanthropy can also bring a team closer together. For instance, this weekend, our team is participating in an AIDS walk and enjoying a brunch afterwards. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning. ~ Alex Chamberlain, EZFingerPrints, LLC EasyLiving, Inc

3. Use Your Skills to Give Back

I believe it’s important for both big companies and small startups to get involved in meaningful volunteer work. Instead of asking software engineers to serve soup at a kitchen, why not have them share their expertise by teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects at schools in underserved areas? This immersive program could last for one or two days, making a maximum impact while giving employees a sense of purpose and value in society. – Christopher Pruijsen, Raising IT

4. Support a Local Charity Event

When it comes to supporting local charity events, we like to go above and beyond. We don’t just sponsor these events – we dive in headfirst and get our entire team involved. We believe in putting our time and effort into supporting the organization of the event, as well as taking charge of online marketing initiatives. This way, we not only contribute to the cause but also help the charity generate its own funds. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.

5. Embrace Social Good as a Core Value

Even if businesses can’t directly include social good in their operations, there are still options to infuse social good into the fabric of the company. One possibility is to allocate one full day every quarter, during working hours, for employees to engage in volunteer work with organizations they care about. Alternatively, businesses can establish meaningful partnerships with local nonprofits to regularly contribute time and resources on a monthly or quarterly basis. ~ Sean Kelly, HUMAN (Helping Unite Mankind And Nutrition)

6. Award an Annual Grant Stipend

7. Find Common Interests

I discovered a way to match my interests with opportunities to make a difference. My company supports these initiatives and encourages us to share our personal causes with each other. We can support our teammates by attending events, buying tickets, or making donations. We focus on two areas, health and education, because they align with our work. Each year, we choose one organization to support. – Shradha Agarwal, ContextMedia

8. Reward Charitable Achievements

We set goals for our team to accomplish and give them bonuses when they meet those goals. Instead of keeping the bonus for themselves, they are meant to be donated to their favorite charity. This turns it into a friendly competition where everyone can succeed. It also empowers them to support a cause they are passionate about. – John Meyer, Lemon.ly

9. Encourage Participation

So, get this. One of my girlfriends just got a job at this huge hedge-fund management company, right? And guess what? A bunch of people there actually dress casually, like they wear sneakers and stuff. Can you believe it? Here’s why: Every quarter, they pick a new charity to support. And get this, if you donate $15 or more, you get to wear business casual clothes for the whole quarter. How cool is that? I never would’ve expected it!

10. Be Generous

Because our company is all about helping others, we often get asked this same question by fellow business owners. You see, nonprofits don’t always have the money to hire new employees. But on the other hand, people who work at for-profit companies also want to give back and gain leadership experience. That’s why doing pro bono work can be the perfect solution for both. We really encourage companies to use their talented employees to make a positive impact on nonprofits. It’s a win-win for everyone!
