How We Got Started

I’ll tell you how it all began – an act of kindness for a friend.

Back in the 1980s, our founder and CEO created a basic program for keeping track of time to help out a local business owner. It was a simple solution to meet their needs. As time went on, Virtual TimeClock became popular and was made available to everyone in the 1990s. Since then, we’ve been dedicated to developing software that perfectly fits the needs of our customers.

I’m Keith DeLong, the CEO of our company, and let me tell you, time is crucial in the software business. Even short periods of time can pose a huge risk to us. You see, technology is constantly changing, and that means we have to constantly update our software. It’s like hitting the restart button on a big chunk of our work. We’ve faced some major challenges over the years. First, we had to adapt to new operating systems like Windows and Mac. Then, local area networks came along and changed how devices communicate with each other in small businesses. And of course, the Internet completely shook things up. Suddenly, we were able to connect remotely and be online all the time. But it didn’t stop there. Soon enough, people started using their phones, tablets, and other lightweight devices to do real work. Now, we’re in a whole new era with the Internet of Things (IOT) and Software as a Service (SaaS) leading the way. These innovations are redefining our products and making us rethink everything we know. It’s a never-ending cycle of recreating and reinventing what we do.

Here’s What I’ve Learned

Let’s talk about what’s really important.

I’ve learned a valuable lesson from DeLong: if I had a chance to go back and do things differently, I would make sure to regularly evaluate my priorities. I would listen to others’ perspectives more often and take the time to reflect on my choices. You see, even though I’ve been quite focused throughout the years, I’ve come to realize that I haven’t been very disciplined. Putting in a lot of effort, even on things that matter, isn’t sufficient. Since my time and resources are limited, I need to concentrate on the most important things.

As the leader, it’s my responsibility to make sure we have the right people on our bus. I want to help everyone find their best possible seat, so they can contribute their unique talents and skills. And for those who aren’t the right fit, I’ll make sure they get off the bus at the very next stop.
