1. Surprise birthday tweets for my husband

I had this amazing idea to do something special for my husband’s birthday. I wanted to surprise him in a unique way, and that’s when I came up with the idea of using social media. But instead of doing it the usual way, I decided to take it to the streets. On the eve of his birthday, I went out and put up posters asking people to send him a happy 32nd birthday tweet. Can you believe it?

I woke up one morning with a crazy idea. I decided to put my trust in the kindness of strangers and see what would happen. I printed out a poster and handed it to people I had never met before, asking them to take a picture of it and share it on social media with birthday wishes for me. One day, they brought in a bunch of plaster masking tape. The three of us stuck it to the window and spelled out a message: “SEND PIZZA RM 4112”. We thought it was hilarious. I mean, who asks for pizza through a window? But it made us giggle, and that’s what really mattered.

I’ve been confined to my hospital bed, paralyzed and unable to move since a terrible car accident in 2013. I’ve been feeling incredibly lonely and desperate for some company while I wait for a treatment that is completely out of my financial reach. That’s when I decided to turn to Twitter.

I summoned up all my courage and sent out a tweet, a simple plea to my followers, asking them to visit me. Little did I know, my tweet would cause a sensation and become the most retweeted message in the entire country. It was shared an astounding 200,000 times, and sparked a new movement with the hashtag #VisitIbrahim. People from all walks of life, strangers and acquaintances alike, flooded the King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh to come see me.

The outpouring of support was so immense that it actually became a problem for the hospital staff. The constant stream of visitors was starting to disrupt the hospital’s operations, to the point where the staff had to impose a temporary ban on visitors. It was an incredible sight to behold, and I am forever grateful for the kindness and compassion that was shown to me.

The amazing part was that the Saudi Twitter community took it a step further by kindly chipping in to help cover Ibrahim’s medical expenses.

These generous donors completely covered the $130,000 cost of his surgery. And if everything goes well, Ibrahim will even get to travel to Germany for his treatment.
