The Things That Get Snatched in Smash-and-Grab Robberies

By Ronald Smith

When it comes to smash-and-grab robberies, there are certain things that are more likely to be stolen than others. It’s interesting to see what items thieves are after the most in these types of crimes. Here are some of the top things that get snatched during smash-and-grab thefts:

1. Electronics: It should come as no surprise that electronics are among the most stolen items during smash-and-grab robberies. Laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other portable gadgets are easy to grab quickly and have a high resale value.

2. Jewelry: Jewelry is another hot commodity for thieves during these types of thefts. Whether it’s precious gems or expensive watches, jewelry is small, valuable, and easy to conceal.

3. Handbags and wallets: Thieves are also quite keen on snatching handbags and wallets. These items often contain cash, credit cards, and personal identification, making them a lucrative target for quick theft.

4. Designer clothing and accessories: Expensive designer clothing and accessories are also popular targets. From high-end fashion items to luxury purses and shoes, thieves know that these stolen goods can fetch a good price on the black market.

5. Vehicle parts: In some smash-and-grab robberies, thieves are not just after valuable items but also vehicle parts. Catalytic converters, for example, can be sold for a significant amount of money due to their valuable metals.

While these are some of the most commonly stolen items during smash-and-grab robberies, it’s important to note that thieves can target anything they believe to be valuable and easily sellable. Protecting your belongings and staying vigilant can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of these types of crimes. Remember to always report any suspicious activity to the authorities to help keep your community safe.

The Things That Get Snatched in Smash-and-Grab Robberies

Did you know that designer clothes are the favorite target of organized retail crime gangs and smash-and-grab thefts? It’s true!

These highly organized criminals have been causing a lot of trouble for retailers, costing them an average of over $700,000 for every $1 billion in sales. And unfortunately, this number keeps going up year after year.

Recent research shows that almost half of retailers have noticed a small increase in smash-and-grab thefts, while around one-third have seen a significant increase.

So what’s the problem? Well, larger retailers can handle these losses by implementing extra security measures, but smaller businesses aren’t so lucky. They often don’t have the resources to absorb the losses or invest in high-tech security.

The Most Popular Loot During Smash-and-Grab Robberies

I have some interesting news about the annual Organized Crime Survey conducted by the National Retail Federation (NRF). They wanted to figure out what items are most commonly stolen during smash-and-grab robberies, so they asked 61 retailers for their input.

Here’s what they found:

Designer clothes – 34%

Wow, it turns out that shops selling fancy designer clothes have to deal with a lot of theft. Criminals really have a thing for fashionable threads!

Laundry detergent – 21%

Believe it or not, those thieves not only don’t want to pay for designer clothes, but they also don’t feel like coughing up the money to clean them properly. Laundry detergent is a big target for these sticky-fingered bandits!

Razors – 20%

If you run a store that sells toiletries, keep an eye out for thieves! Razors are another hot item on their hit list. Guess they want to stay clean-shaven while avoiding paying for it.

Designer handbags – 16%

No surprise here! Stolen designer handbags are highly sought-after on the black market. There will always be a market for these fancy purses, no matter what!

Deodorant – 15%

Guess what? Toiletries are on the list again! It seems like stores selling these goods are the ones that thieves target the most. They’re probably trying to snatch multiple items at once, can you believe it?

Laptops and tablets – 13%

You know those fancy tech stores with all their security measures? Well, even with all that, determined thieves still manage to find a way to break in and grab these tech gadgets. It’s crazy!

Infant formula – 13%

Oh, this one breaks my heart. It’s sad, but true. People steal infant formula quite often. It’s really unfair, isn’t it?

Allergy medicine – 13%

Here’s another sad entry. Believe it or not, poverty and hardship play a bigger role here than serious organized criminals. It’s a tough situation.

Pain relievers – 13%

Did you know that pain relievers are one of the most popular items stolen during smash-and-grab robberies? It’s true! Those bad guys can’t resist getting their hands on them.

High-end liquor – 13%

Even though liquor stores have lots of security measures, they are still targeted for their fancy, expensive drinks. It’s like a cat and mouse game between the thieves and the owners.

Denim pants – 11%

Hey, did you know that denim pants are also on the list? It’s true! People love stealing them too. Who knew jeans could be so popular among thieves?

Did you know that denim pants are the second most commonly stolen item in clothing stores? Yeah, right after designer gear. I guess people really love their jeans.

But guess what else is a hot target for thieves?

Cigarettes! Surprising, huh? Criminal gangs just can’t resist getting their hands on them. It’s tough for cigarette sellers to stop this item from being stolen so often.

And here’s another surprising one: teeth whitening strips.

They may be small and not very secure, but that hasn’t stopped opportunistic thieves from swiping them. Who would have thought?

Now, this one might make you blush a little: contraceptives.

Retailers who sell contraceptives understand that it can be embarrassing for some people to buy them. But that’s no excuse for stealing! Let’s respect each other’s privacy, right?

And of course, we can’t forget about cell phones.

They’re like magnets for smash-and-grab thieves. Even though cell phone retailers take a ton of security measures, the high value of these gadgets still makes them an irresistible target.

Oh, and one last thing – energy drinks.

Did you ever stop and think about how easy it is for someone to nab an energy drink? Those little cans can slip right into a pocket, and they’re usually not locked up tight. That’s why they’re a popular item to steal.

Now, let’s talk about high-end vacuums – they make up 5% of thefts.

It might not be at the top of the list, but if you sell vacuum cleaners, you need to be aware that your products are still a big target for organized thieves. So, keep an eye out!

And don’t forget about high-end appliances – they also make up 5% of thefts.

Just like vacuum cleaners, these fancy appliances are not only valuable to take for personal use, but they can also fetch a pretty penny when sold. That’s why they’re so tempting to criminals.

Now, if you have a small business, this research is especially important for you. It shows you which items are considered the most valuable to thieves. So, be sure to guard them extra carefully!
