TaskRabbit: Your Online Solution to Finding Temporary Help

When I first heard about TaskRabbit, I thought it was a cool idea. It started as a way for people to find someone to do odd jobs for them. You know, like helping with grocery shopping, walking their dog, or even putting together furniture from IKEA. It was like having your own personal assistant, or a gal Friday as they called it.

But now, TaskRabbit has expanded to the business world with TaskRabbit for Business. They saw how helpful their service was for individuals, and decided to bring that same concept to businesses.

Just last week, TaskRabbit launched their business-oriented service. It’s specifically designed for businesses to find temporary help that has been thoroughly vetted and background-checked.

TaskRabbit for Business focuses on what they call long term help. Now, that might sound a bit confusing. After all, TaskRabbit has always been known for short-term gigs or one-day needs. But with this new service, long term could mean something that takes more than just a day. It could even mean having a worker who comes in regularly for a set number of hours each week.

I’ve got some interesting news for you! According to TaskRabbit, 35% of the tasks that people post on their platform are from businesses. Can you believe that? It turns out that businesses have been using TaskRabbit as an easy and reliable way to find temporary employees. How cool is that?

I talked to Victor Echevarria, who is the Head of Business Development at TaskRabbit, and he told me that many businesses are getting frustrated with the old-fashioned ways of finding temporary workers. They are tired of wasting time going through online classifieds and job boards, and dealing with all the paperwork that comes with hiring W-2 employees. I totally understand their frustration, don’t you?

But here’s the question: Will TaskRabbit be a good fit for small businesses?

Well, it all depends on the type of job you need help with. If you need someone to come to your office or store, or if you prefer virtual assistance, that makes a difference. The size of the job also matters, as well as where your business is located. So it’s not a one-size-fits-all answer, but TaskRabbit might just be the solution you’ve been looking for.

When it comes to TaskRabbit for Business, they really pride themselves in having top-notch workers. They make sure to conduct thorough background checks on all of their workers, which is a big deal. What’s more, they even gather information from LinkedIn to create profiles for their workers. This way, employers can get a quick glimpse of their skills and work experience.

But that’s not all. TaskRabbit for Business is all about keeping things simple and speedy when it comes to hiring. The process of posting a job is made super easy and quick. They’ve even got this cool feature called Quick Assign that’s kind of like hitting the buy it now button. Basically, the first worker who accepts your price gets the job. It’s especially great for jobs like administrative work, customer service, sales, and data entry.

But here’s the thing – finding workers who can come to your place might be a problem. If you live in one of the nine big cities where TaskRabbit operates, then you’re good to go. Unfortunately for me, living in a small town in Ohio meant that I could only post virtual tasks. Luckily, that’s exactly what I needed help with anyway.

Unless you’re in one of those nine cities I mentioned, it’s unlikely that someone will be able to come over and help you put together your fancy new desks and chairs. According to TaskRabbit’s website, they currently cover Boston, San Antonio, Chicago, Portland, New York City, the San Francisco Bay area, Austin, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Orange County.

Let’s talk about a problem called fees. Here’s the deal: if you treat your worker like a W-2 employee, TaskRabbit charges you 26% of what they make. But if you treat them as a 1099 independent contractor, you’ll have to pay an extra 20% on top of their earnings.

Now, TaskRabbit claims that their prices are lower than what temporary agencies charge. But here’s the thing: these fees can make small businesses hesitate before using TaskRabbit for big projects or ongoing work. I mean, for small tasks that cost a few hundred dollars, a 20% fee might be worth it for the convenience of getting help quickly. And if you go with the 26% fee, you’ll get a payroll solution that covers payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and unemployment compensation. That’s pretty nice, I guess.

But when it comes to bigger jobs, it gets tricky. Adding 20% or 26% on top of thousands of dollars skyrockets your business expenses in no time.

Did you know that there are lots of websites where you can hire people to help you out from their own homes? It’s true! And the best part is, these online services are way cheaper than hiring someone in person.

One popular service is called ODesk. They only charge 10% of the money you pay to the person you hire. That’s a pretty good deal! And if you want to use ODesk’s payroll services, they charge an extra 20%. It’s totally optional, though, so you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.

Another service to check out is Elance. They charge a service fee of 8.75%. It’s a bit higher than ODesk, but still much cheaper than hiring someone in the real world.

Both ODesk and Elance have really cool systems to help you manage your projects. They have timesheets, work diaries, and reports so you can keep track of everything. Plus, they both have feedback systems where other people can rate the workers they’ve hired before.
