By Ronald Smith

Are you ready to join the Amazon Flex family and start earning some extra cash? As an Amazon Flex driver, you have the power to boost your income in a way that fits your schedule. Whether you want to save up for that dream vacation, pay off your student loans, or achieve other financial goals, this gig is here to make it happen for you.

Here’s the cool thing about being an Amazon Flex driver: you’re in control. You get to decide how much time you want to dedicate to this job. No more 9-to-5 grind or rigid schedules. As an independent contractor, you can choose convenient delivery blocks that work for you. These blocks can be as short as 2 hours or as long as a whole day. It’s all up to you.

So, What exactly is Amazon Flex?

Let me tell you about this cool program called Amazon Flex. It’s like being a freelancer for Amazon, but instead of working on a computer, you get to deliver packages using your own vehicle. How awesome is that?

As an Amazon Flex driver, I pick up packages from delivery stations and make sure they get to the customers on time. It’s my responsibility to make sure that everyone gets their goodies when they expect them.

But here’s the cool part – delivering Amazon orders is just the beginning. As a Flex driver, I also handle orders from Prime Now, Amazon Fresh, and other stores. So I’m not only delivering smiles from Amazon, but from other places too!

If you want to join the Flex squad, there are a few things you need to know. First, you gotta be at least 21 years old. Second, you need to have a valid driver’s license and a social security number. Once you have those, you’re all set to start your Flex adventure!

How Much Money Can You Make with Amazon Flex?

Have you ever wondered how much you can earn as an Amazon Flex driver? Well, let me tell you, it’s a pretty sweet deal!

When you join the Amazon Flex team, you’ll find that it’s not your average part-time gig. In fact, it can be more financially rewarding than most other jobs in that category.

Now, don’t expect to be paid minimum wage. Oh no, it’s so much better than that! You’ll earn quite a bit more than the minimum wage, which is great news for your wallet.

But hold on, there’s something you need to keep in mind. Since you’ll be using your own vehicle for deliveries, you’ll have some expenses to consider. Think about things like maintenance and fuel costs. It’s important to take these into account, my friend.

But here’s the good news: as an independent contractor, you can actually deduct these vehicle expenses when you file your taxes. So, it’s not all bad news!

Alright, let’s get down to it. On average, an Amazon Flex driver can make anywhere from $18 to $25 per hour. Not too shabby, right? Plus, there’s more! You’ll also be eligible for some special benefits that can give your purchasing power a boost. Pretty cool, huh?

How Can You Become an Amazon Flex Driver and Start Delivering Those Packages?

Before you start this adventure, make sure that Amazon Flex delivery routes are accessible where you live. Right now, you can find routes in 13 big cities, and Amazon is actively adding more areas and finding new drivers.

Take a look at the list on https://www.flex.amazon.com/lets-drive.

9 Important Steps

1. Check If You Meet the Requirements for Amazon Deliveries

  • You need an Android or iPhone.
  • You must have a midsized sedan, SUV, truck, or van that is registered and insured. In some cities, like New York City, you may need additional commercial vehicle registration and insurance. If you have a truck, it must have a covered bed. You can use a rental or borrowed vehicle as long as it meets the requirements.
  • You need a valid driver’s license.

Don’t have a vehicle? In certain areas, Amazon Flex delivery drivers may use a bicycle. The bicycle needs to have a basket, and the rider must wear a helmet. Motorized bicycles, motorcycles, or scooters are not allowed.

2. Do You Have the Right Equipment for Amazon Work?

If you want to work for Amazon, you’ll need a smartphone that runs on Android or iPhone with a software version of 6.0 or higher. Make sure it has at least 2 GB of RAM, a flash camera, and GPS support.

Now, let’s talk about vehicle insurance. Amazon requires a few types of coverage: liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, and comprehensive and collision coverage.

When it comes to choosing a car, I’d suggest going for a four-door midsize car. They have plenty of space for packages and are really handy when you’re delivering.

Step 3: Get the Amazon Flex App

The Amazon Flex App is like my personal control center as an Amazon Flex driver. It’s where I get all the important information and updates I need.

With this app, I can plan my delivery routes, choose the best job slots, and keep track of my earnings. It’s all right here, in one convenient place.

But that’s not all it does. The app also gives me live updates during my deliveries. So if there are any additional packages that need to be delivered, like for Amazon Fresh or Prime Now, I’ll know about it.

And to top it off, the app takes care of my compensation too. It makes sure that my earnings are directly deposited into my Amazon Flex debit card twice a week.

Step 4: Finish the Amazon Signup Tutorial

Once you’ve got the app up and running, you’ll need to go through an interactive signup tutorial. This tutorial will walk you through the app’s features and give you important information about the job.

The tutorial is designed to help you quickly understand what you need to do and what’s expected of you. If you have any issues with downloading the app or need help with the tutorial, you can reach out to Amazon Flex support at 888-281-6906. They’re available from 9 am to 9 pm EST and ready to assist you.

In addition, the app has a library of short training videos that are there to help new drivers.

Step 5: Pass a Background Check

Amazon takes the safety of its customers and the reliability of its services very seriously. That’s why all potential drivers have to go through a thorough background check conducted by Accurate Background.

When I apply to become a driver for Amazon, the first thing they do is check my driving record to see if I’ve had any previous traffic violations. They also check my criminal record for the past seven years to make sure I’m a responsible and trustworthy person.

The background check usually takes a few days, anywhere from 2 to 5 days, before I hear back from them.

6. Plan Your Amazon Delivery Schedule

Once I pass the background check, I can start planning my work schedule using the Amazon app.

Amazon has a system called delivery blocks that I can choose from to set my availability. These blocks estimate how long it will take me to make the deliveries.

The blocks range from a minimum of 2 hours (for Prime Now and Amazon Fresh) to 3 hours for Amazon.com deliveries.

I’m here to give you all the information you need about earning money with Amazon Flex. Let’s dive in!

1. Get an Estimate of Earnings

First things first, I want to give you an idea of how much you can expect to earn. These nifty blocks will give you an estimate of how long it will take to complete a delivery and your potential earnings per hour. But remember, the actual amount you receive may vary.

2. Head to the Amazon Delivery Station

Once you’ve got all the necessary details from the blocks, it’s time to head over to the nearest Amazon delivery station. This place could be a warehouse or something similar, where you’ll pick up all the packages for the block you chose.

Now, here’s the important part to remember: the clock for earning money starts ticking only when you begin making deliveries, not during your journey from the station to your first drop-off. So, keep this in mind while calculating your expected earnings and any travel expenses you might have.

8. Be an Amazon Delivery Superstar!

When I’m delivering packages for Amazon, I follow the GPS navigation in the Amazon Flex app to find my customers.

It’s really cool because whenever I deliver a package, I snap a photo of it and upload it to the app. This way, we both have proof that I made the delivery during my shift.

This process is important because it keeps everything transparent and accountable for both of us – me and Amazon.

9. Make Extra Money and Get Paid!

Guess what? With Amazon Flex, I get paid twice a week, and the money goes straight to my Amazon Flex debit card. It’s like having my own special bank account!

But the benefits don’t stop there. Once you have an Amazon Flex debit card, you’ll get even more perks. You’ll get discounts on stuff, and you can earn points with each delivery you do. Plus, when you use the card to buy things, you’ll get some of your cash back.

This special card works at lots of ATMs all across the country – over 19,000 of them! This means you can easily take out the money you earned or move it to your own bank account if you want.

How does the Amazon Flex Job Work?

  • First, make sure you have the right stuff for the Amazon Flex job, like the right phone and car.
  • Then, use the Amazon app to find a delivery job that’s available. The app is like having your own boss right in your hand!
  • When it’s time to start, go pick up your packages at a special Amazon place called a delivery station. It might be a big warehouse.

How to Take Images of Deliveries

When I’m working as a delivery driver, I always make sure to take pictures of the packages I deliver. This is important because it proves that I left the packages at the right place. It’s a simple step that gives me peace of mind and ensures that everything is in order.

Earning Money with a Smile

As I go about completing my deliveries, I like to do it with a smile on my face. It’s a great feeling to know that I’m not only making money, but also helping people receive their packages. It’s like a win-win situation!

Getting Around the Amazon Flex App

The Amazon Flex app is designed to make my job as a driver easier and more efficient. It’s like my personal assistant for everything related to deliveries.

With the app, I can easily track the deliveries that are still pending and mark them as completed once I drop them off. It’s a simple way to keep everything organized and ensure that I don’t miss any packages.

Another great feature of the app is that it helps me keep track of my earnings. It’s like my own personal finance portal. I can see how much money I’ve made and how much more I can earn.

If I’m new to being a delivery driver, the app has got me covered. It has tons of resources, like tutorials, that teach me everything I need to know. It’s like having a mentor right in my pocket!

And if I ever have any questions or issues, I can easily reach out to an Amazon Flex associate through the app. They’re always ready to help me out.

The Advantages of Working for Amazon Flex

  • I love working for Amazon Flex because I get paid twice a week. As soon as I start working, I can start earning money right away. Plus, I get to keep any tips I receive!
  • Another great thing about Amazon Flex is that I can choose a schedule that works best for me. There are so many options to choose from, which gives me the flexibility I need.
  • I don’t need a big delivery vehicle to work for Amazon Flex. In fact, I can use my car in most cases, as long as it’s big enough to hold the packages. It’s convenient and saves me money on transportation!
  • One of the perks of working for Amazon Flex is the Amazon debit card. Not only does it give me access to special discounts on Amazon, but I can also earn cash back when I use it for purchases.
  • If I ever need cash, I can easily withdraw money from the debit card at ATMs. I can even use the card to make a deposit to my bank account. It’s super convenient!
  • I really appreciate that once I claim a block for work, it’s mine for as long as I complete the assigned tasks. This allows me to get familiar with the area and the work, giving me a sense of ownership.

Let me tell you about the app. It’s got a bunch of menu options that can answer any questions you might have. And if you’re out in the field, you can get your questions answered right away. That’s pretty cool, right?

But, there are a few downsides to being an Amazon Flex driver. First off, they don’t reimburse you for any wear and tear on your car. So you gotta take care of that yourself. And speaking of taking care of things, even though you’re a contractor, you still gotta be available to work every day. Your block is your block, and it’s up to you to make sure you’re there to do the job.

Another thing to consider is that Amazon Flex isn’t available in all cities. So if you’re not in one of the lucky places, you’re out of luck. And if you do get to work for Amazon Flex, you might have to up your insurance coverage. They want you to have more coverage than what you already have.

Here’s another thing to think about: the best blocks near your favorite pickup spot might already be taken. So you might not always get the most convenient job.

And finally, if you wanna have a passenger with you while you work, that’s fine. But they can’t help you out with the work. They’re just along for the ride.

Now, let’s talk about the security benefits of being an Amazon Flex driver.

  • Data Protection: At Amazon, we take the security of your personal information seriously, making sure that everything from your driver’s license to your social security number is protected using our advanced data security protocols.
  • Fraud Prevention: To keep you safe, we use state-of-the-art technology to prevent fraudulent activities. Our innovative measures include biometric verification, such as selfies, which help confirm your identity and assist in any fraud investigations.
  • Trust and Safety: Your safety and trust are our top priorities. Our security measures not only protect our drivers, but also ensure that our customers feel secure when using our services. We are committed to creating a reliable and safe working environment for our drivers, while providing a trustworthy service for our customers.
  • Various Delivery Options with Amazon Flex

    • Prime Now Deliveries: These are special deliveries I can make as an Amazon Flex driver, but only for Amazon Prime members. It’s all about speed and efficiency. I’ll have one or two hours to deliver the packages, which can be pretty competitive because I might get tips!
    • Amazon Fresh: This is a service where I’ll be delivering groceries. I’ll pick up the orders from the distribution center and bring them straight to the customers or a pickup location. It’s important to have good communication with the customers for this one. The delivery blocks for Amazon Fresh usually take around 2 to 4 hours.
    • Store Orders: Another type of delivery I can do is picking up items from local stores and delivering them to customers. Just like Amazon Fresh, these delivery blocks usually last 2 to 4 hours. It’s important to be efficient and organized for this kind of delivery too.
    • Instant Offers: I’m excited to tell you about this awesome feature called Instant Offers that Amazon Flex offers in selected cities. These are super quick delivery jobs that usually last between 15 to 45 minutes. The best part is that they are often near Prime Now and Whole Foods locations, so you just need to be close to these spots to receive offers.

    Amazon Flex Vs. Postmates

Let me introduce you to another company in the gig economy called Postmates. Here are some cool comparisons between Amazon Flex and Postmates:

Unlike Amazon Flex, Postmates doesn’t have a set schedule of jobs. You have the freedom to log on to their site whenever you’re available.

When it comes to payments, deliveries on Postmates are assigned a flat fee along with a gas mileage rate.

What’s interesting is that deliveries on Postmates can be made by walking, driving a car, or even riding a bicycle!

Independent workers on Postmates typically make anywhere from $10 to $18 per hour. And guess what? You can keep all the tips you receive on top of your hourly earnings!

    Amazon Flex Vs. Doordash

Did you know that with Doordash, you have options when it comes to making deliveries? You can walk, bike, or even drive a car – whatever works best for you! And the great thing is, there are no size requirements for your car. Just make sure you don’t choose a delivery that won’t fit in your vehicle.

When it comes to scheduling, there’s no set schedule with Doordash. You can simply log on to the site whenever you’re available and ready to deliver.

Doordash is especially popular for grocery orders, so if you enjoy helping people stock up on essentials, this could be the perfect gig for you.

Now, let’s talk about the pay. With Doordash, you’ll receive a flat fee for each delivery, which usually ranges between $6 and $10. When you log on to the site, the available deliveries will determine how much you can make per hour. On average, you’ll earn around $10 to $16 per hour. And don’t forget, you get to keep all your tips on top of your hourly pay. That’s some extra cash in your pocket!

So, to sum it all up, Doordash gives you the flexibility to choose how you want to make your deliveries, offers a wide range of grocery orders, and provides decent pay with the opportunity to earn tips. It’s a win-win!

Oh, and before I forget, here’s a handy comparison of Doordash, Postmates, and other delivery options:

So far, you can find it in Atlanta, New York City (Brooklyn and Manhattan), Portland (Oregon), Virginia Beach, Austin, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles (Irvine and Hawthorne), Orlando, and Tampa Bay.

The good news is that they are planning to expand and bring Amazon Flex to more places like Seattle, Detroit, Worcester (Massachusetts), Boise (Idaho), and other areas of New York City. But if you’re not in one of those areas, don’t worry! There’s another option for you – starting an Amazon DSP business. It’s a great alternative!

Does Amazon Flex cover the cost of gas?

No, Amazon Flex does not provide direct compensation for gas expenses. However, this doesn’t mean that your fuel costs are a complete loss.

If you keep track of your mileage, you can claim the costs of gas when you file your taxes. Additionally, you may be able to claim certain other related expenses as well.

So, while you don’t receive separate payment for gas, you can potentially offset the expense when you file your taxes.

Can I create my own schedule with Amazon Flex?

In a way, yes. With Amazon Flex, you have the freedom to choose the blocks of time when you are available to work. These blocks are typically structured to accommodate deliveries within a specific timeframe.

This means that when you select a block, you are essentially deciding on the hours that suit you best.

Is tipping included in Amazon Flex pay?

The money you receive directly from Amazon through the Flex platform does not include tips. However, many customers may choose to add tips to your pay, and you are allowed to keep that money.
