Now, let me fill you in on what happened during the webinar on April 27. Representatives from SBA partners SCORE (that’s short for service corps of retired executives) and the Public Private Strategies Institute gave us the lowdown on the SBA’s brand-new Equity Action Plan.
The webinar featured some incredible speakers, including Rhett Buttle, the founder of the Public-Private Strategies Institute, Betsy Dougert, VP of External Relations at SCORE, and Aditi Dussault, a Senior Advisor at the SBA. They broke down the details of the plan and shared their insights.
So, what exactly is the SBA Equity Action Plan?
Well, according to Buttle, the plan aims to support the goal of building a better America by creating a strong community of resources for small businesses. It’s all about nurturing and empowering small business owners like you!
I want to let you know about this amazing community that is here to support entrepreneurs who may not have had the same opportunities as others. They can help you access the capital you need, participate in government contracts, get assistance during disasters, and even provide business counseling. It’s an incredible resource for anyone looking to start or grow their business.
Exciting Updates from SCORE
I’m thrilled to share with you what SCORE has been up to lately. As a partner with the Small Business Administration (SBA), they offer mentoring, business training, and a wealth of resources to support you and your business.
- Resilience Hub – In response to the challenges brought on by the pandemic, SCORE is joining forces with business owners to help them secure government funding, adapt their business strategies, revamp their marketing efforts, and navigate through any employee-related issues.
- SCORE for All – SCORE is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity by providing specialized resources specifically designed for women, veterans, and minority small business owners. They want to ensure that everyone has equal access to the support they need.
I’ve got some exciting updates for you from the SBA!
What’s new with the SBA?
Let’s talk about the Infrastructure and Jobs Act: I just learned that the 2021 Infrastructure and Jobs Act has given us $550 billion in fresh funding. This money is specifically meant to improve public transportation, make broadband more accessible, ensure clean water, and fix up our roads and bridges.
- With better transportation infrastructure, we’ll see fewer shipping delays.
- Thanks to universal broadband, business owners like you can connect with new customers and boost your eCommerce game.
- The Minority Business Development Agency is on our radar now, which means small business owners can easily access valuable resources.
By the way, I want to remind you that SCORE is an amazing free resource funded by our federal government. If you have specific questions, I highly recommend partnering up with a mentor through SCORE. They’re there to help you out!
The American Rescue Plan/CARES Act: How It Keeps Helping Us
I wanted to talk to you about some ongoing benefits we’re still getting from the American Rescue Plan/CARES Act. It’s pretty cool how these programs continue to make a positive impact on our lives. Check it out!
- The Community Navigator Pilot Program: This program is all about helping different communities, like ours, by providing financial assistance and support. They can help us with things like access to capital, marketing, operations, exporting, and even business development. It’s like having a buddy to guide us through the challenging parts of running a business!
- Changes to the Made in America procurement guidelines: You know when we see that Made in America label on a product? Well, now there are new rules that make it even better! The products need to have at least 75% of their components made right here in the US. That’s an increase from the previous requirement of 55%. So when we buy things, we’re not just supporting American businesses, we’re also supporting American workers!
- The Covid Roadmap for the Future: This plan focuses on two important things: protecting us from new variants of the virus and keeping our economy and education system going. They’re working hard to prevent shutdowns and keep things going smoothly. Plus, they’re still encouraging everyone to get vaccinated, so we can all stay safe and healthy.
Isn’t it awesome how these programs keep benefiting us? I’m grateful that we have these resources to rely on in times like these. Let’s keep taking advantage of them and make the most of what they offer!
