My initial reaction was skepticism. I mean, who wouldn’t be doubtful after hearing phrases like People are our greatest asset or We value Emotional Intelligence and Servant Leadership, only to discover that the reality at work is more like I’m paying you to show up and make me money.

But as I delved into the book, my curiosity was piqued. And I believe you should give it a chance too. What really intrigued me was that Dunlop based her findings on a research study involving 6,000 individuals in the United States.

  • The fourth distortion reveals itself in the uneven valuation of the same work based on who is performing it. We still have a long way to go in terms of providing equal pay to employees based on their skills and contributions, rather than factors like gender and race.
