How I Started My Business

I wanted to provide the services I needed, close to home.

Here’s my story: I wanted to find a way to help my community and create a special place for women in my hometown, The Bronx. There are plenty of salons uptown, but I wanted to open a salon that was different, where women could truly love themselves, even if it was just for a little while. And then, I had an idea. Why not become the kind of salon I always wished for?

The Most Daunting Challenge

The scariest moment was when I decided to open a physical store.

Let me tell you, it was a bold move on my part. I had to go for broke and secure a $20,000 business loan with the support of the Small Business Administration. You see, specialized salons like mine are a rarity in the Bronx. The only salons you’ll find here are for hair. There’s not much awareness or knowledge about waxing, and we faced tough competition from hair, nail, and eyebrow salons. I was worried that our community wouldn’t accept us.

But you know what? We managed to pull through, thanks to our loyal clients, the power of social media, our warm and inviting atmosphere, and our commitment to educating our clients. We refused to sink!

A Valuable Lesson

Here’s what I’ve learned: always leave space to grow.

If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would take my time searching for a commercial space that is not only affordable, but also provides ample room for expansion. You see, The Brazi Shop is experiencing growth, and we really want to expand our business. Unfortunately, our current location is quite small and doesn’t allow us to do that just yet.

Make It Count: $100,000

Let me explain how I would make the most of an extra $100,000.

I would use that money to secure a store front location where I could hire additional licensed wax specialists. This would enable us to serve even more women and provide them with the services they need. Additionally, I would organize empowering events specifically for women, creating a supportive and uplifting community.
