We humans have a tendency to divide ourselves based on various factors. In our day-to-day lives, things like race, gender, appearance, age, location, and personal interests often influence who we gravitate towards. This division is also present in the workplace.
When it comes to the workplace, we often find ourselves divided by our roles, where we sit, and how long we’ve been here. It’s pretty clear who’s in charge and who’s not.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the term open door policy before, but do you actually prioritize it? Having an open door policy means keeping your door physically open and letting your employees come and go as they need to. And let me tell you, there are so many benefits to doing this.
When you make yourself accessible to your employees, something amazing happens. They feel comfortable coming in for a quick chat to discuss difficult issues, share situations, or bring new ideas to your attention. This is really important because it gives you a better understanding of what’s happening in the department or company on a daily basis. It’s like having your finger on the pulse of everything that’s going on.
2. Let’s Hang Out Beyond Work
Have you ever chilled with your co-workers outside of the job? (Bumping into a co-worker at the mall doesn’t count.) The coolest way to build stronger connections with them is by creating chances to bond outside the office. This is where we make good memories and break down those hidden barriers. Here are a few one-of-a-kind ideas:
- Experience the awe of whale watching. Sometimes the most extraordinary moments are the ones that take us beyond our everyday lives. These are the moments that stay with us, leaving a lasting impression. So, why not embark on a thrilling whale watching adventure? When you gaze into the eye of a whale, feel the refreshing mist of its blowhole, or witness its graceful leaps from the water, we are transformed. We are reminded that life extends far beyond our own existence.
- Let’s build a house together. Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience in house building. We can gather our team and volunteer for a house-building project with Habitat for Humanity. It’s amazing how pushing our team beyond their comfort zone and working on a project from start to finish can bring us closer and reveal our true selves to each other.
- How about forming a sports team? Competition has a way of showing people’s real colors. Some are fierce and unstoppable, while others are calm and strategic. Although there’s some competition in the office, it’s not the same as being outside of work. So why not join a local recreational sports league and form a team? It’s a great opportunity to bond and really get to know each other.
