Are 24-Hour Fitness Franchises Still Thriving? Can We Fit in More?

By Ronald Smith

So, at the start of the year, we all tend to make resolutions, right? And let’s be honest, weight loss is usually right at the top of the list. Getting fit is a close second, and quitting smoking trails not too far behind…

But have you ever wondered how much money is poured into marketing and advertising to get us motivated for these New Year goals?

Well, according to the folks at Nielsen Wire, a staggering $181 million was spent in January of 2008!

Now, let’s dig into the topic of fitness a bit more.

In the US, it seems like we’re getting bigger every year. A survey says that by 2015, over three quarters of American adults will be overweight. It’s getting so bad that soon, being overweight will be the main cause of preventable death. It’s crazy, but we’re actually the most obese country in the world.

Are people really working on losing weight? Are more and more people getting fit? Do we even have time in our super busy schedules to go to the gym? I mean, who has the time to actually use those gym memberships we’ve paid for?

Or is it just me, or does everyone seem to be busier and more stressed out all the time?

You know, us busy folks have really made an impact on the fitness industry. There’s this awesome new concept called the 24-hour fitness club. Basically, when you become a member, they give you a special key that lets you work out whenever you want, day or night. During the day, there’s usually a personal trainer around to help out. But at night, you’re pretty much on your own. The clubs do have security systems in place though, like video surveillance, to keep everyone safe.

Now, these 24/7 fitness clubs, both franchise and non-franchise, aren’t without their fair share of controversy. But let me tell you about two of the biggest players in this game: Snap Fitness and Anytime Fitness. They offer monthly memberships and have really nice, clean facilities. Plus, they’re growing like crazy!

Can you believe that despite the tough economic times, these 24-hour fitness franchises are actually doing pretty well? It’s true! Let me tell you a cool story. About a year and a half ago, I found the perfect fit for one of my franchise candidates at a Snap Fitness location. And guess what? I just got word that he’s opening a second location! How awesome is that?

Now, you might be wondering if there’s still potential in the 24-hour fitness franchise industry. Well, to be honest, I’m a bit surprised myself that these franchises are still growing so rapidly. I mean, with more and more competitors entering the market, like Zoo Health Club and Workout Anytime, it’s really impressive.

I’ve noticed something interesting about this fitness franchise niche. It’s holding its own and doing pretty well, which is impressive considering how many franchise company executives are frustrated by the lack of potential buyers.

Now, I’m curious. Do you think there’s still room for 24-hour fitness franchises to grow and thrive?
