They’ve only been around for 2 years and you can find their products in Bloomingdale’s, fancy boutiques, cool barbershops, trendy salons, and even some of the most luxurious spas in the world. Talk about being a big deal!

Here’s the thing: many companies in my industry claim to use natural and organic ingredients, but they really only use a tiny amount. Not me. When I make my products, I make sure to include a significant amount of natural and organic ingredients. And I don’t just say it, I prove it by listing the exact content on the bottle.
How It All Started
It all began with a simple realization.
I had a girlfriend who pointed out a wrinkle on my forehead in a photo we took together. This made me understand the importance of taking care of my skin. However, there was a problem. I have allergies to gluten and dairy, so I started examining the labels of skin care products. To my surprise, I discovered that they were filled with harmful chemicals. That’s when I reached out to my best friend and business partner, Matt Bolduc. I shared with him the idea of creating a natural skin care line for men.
Our Greatest Achievement
Within a few months of launching, we were featured in Men’s Journal.
When I cold-called editors for over a month, hoping for a breakthrough, I never imagined that one of them would actually get back to me. But she did. And that one connection gave our business legitimacy and opened doors to other major men’s magazines like GQ and Men’s Health. In fact, it landed us a feature in Men’s Journal, which proved to be a game-changer for us.
Why was it such a big deal? Well, the editor told me that they had a story in mind where our product would fit perfectly. She needed it overnighted for testing and a photoshoot. And just like that, we found ourselves in the prestigious pages of Men’s Journal. The exposure we gained from that feature led to wholesale accounts, brought a flood of traffic to our website, and propelled our business to new heights.
Looking back, it’s hard to believe that we took such a risk by jumping into an industry we knew nothing about. Neither my partner nor I had any experience in selling physical products or in the grooming/beauty industry. It was a leap of faith, but one that paid off big time. If things had gone south, we would have lost a significant amount, around $15,000 each. But as fate would have it, our gamble paid off handsomely. In just two years, our business now generates over $2.5 million annually.
And if I had an extra $100,000 to spend? Well, it’s hard to say. Maybe I’d invest it back into the business, exploring new opportunities for growth. Or perhaps I’d take a well-deserved vacation to recharge and celebrate our success. Either way, it would be a sweet reward for the hard work and risks we’ve taken.
If you want to see my business grow, you should invest more in sales and marketing. That’s what I think, anyway.
According to Meyer, there are a couple of things that have really helped our business to thrive. One of them is Facebook ads and the other is wholesale relationships. We’ve seen firsthand how effective these strategies can be, and we’d love to have more money to put towards them. So, if you’re looking for ways to help us succeed, this is where I’d suggest focusing your resources.
The Biggest Mistake I Almost Made
Can you believe that I almost missed out on a huge opportunity? I was so close to getting major press from Men’s Journal, but I almost blew it because I was trying to save some money. I didn’t want to pay an extra $50 to overnight some product to an editor, and as a result, we missed their deadline. It was a big mistake, but luckily the editor was understanding and postponed the photo shoot for a day. Phew!
My Favorite Team Lunch
Let me tell you about my favorite team lunch. We’re lucky enough to have Matt’s brother own a restaurant delivery service, and we actually share office/warehouse space with them. This means that we get to order food from all kinds of amazing restaurants in Portland, ME, which is known as a top foodie city. It’s a real treat for us!
