12 Ways to Make Sure You Get Amazing 5-Star Reviews!

When it comes to your business, customer reviews can either make it or break it. Positive reviews add credibility to your brand and attract more loyal customers. On the other hand, too many negative reviews can turn potential customers away before they even give you a chance.

So, how can you increase the number of positive reviews and minimize the negative ones? Here are 12 practical ways you can ensure your business receives more stars in every customer review— and at the end, there’s an exciting opportunity to learn more!

Take the Initiative and Ask for Feedback

Once you’ve done business with a customer, it’s important to check in with them and find out about their experience. If they made a purchase online, send them an email. If you have other methods of following up with customers, use those. Request a rating for their experience and ask for suggestions on how you could improve in the future.

If you don’t ask customers to tell you about their experience, they might just share it publicly. So, if they didn’t have a good experience, everyone online will hear about it. But if you ask them directly, they can give you their thoughts in a controlled setting, and you might gain valuable insights for your business.

Make Changes Based on Feedback

Some customers will definitely give you suggestions for how to improve their experience in the future. While not all the feedback you receive will be useful, it’s still important to read through it. You never know when you might start noticing patterns over time from the responses you receive.

If more and more customers are having problems with the checkout process, for instance, it might be a good idea to make some changes. If they’re not happy with shipping times, it’s worth exploring different shipping options. Taking action based on customer feedback shows them that you genuinely care about their opinions and improves the experience for both current and future customers.

Take Ownership of Your Business on Review Sites

Sites like Yelp allow you to claim your business and create a dedicated space for customers to share their reviews. This makes it easier for customers to find your reviews on search engines and enables you to respond to their feedback more efficiently.

Encourage Happy Customers to Write Reviews

So here’s the deal: if you ask for reviews, you’ll definitely get more. But hold up, don’t straight up ask for positive reviews. Apparently, places like Yelp frown upon that kind of thing. But hey, you can still do something about it. You can make an effort to guide happy customers towards review sites online.

After a customer makes a purchase, why not follow up with them? And for those who had a great experience, you can send them a quick message asking for a review on Yelp or Facebook. You can even make it easier for them by including direct links to these sites on your own website. And oh, if you’re doing online surveys, I’ve got good news. QuestionPro has this fancy feature called Push to Social that can automatically prompt reviewers to share their positive ratings on social media.

And if you want to collect reviews offline, that’s cool too.

Even if I mostly sell things offline, I should still ask my customers about their experience. If I interact with them face-to-face, I can ask them in person or provide comment cards for feedback. If I communicate with them over the phone, I can follow up that way. Afterward, I can guide them to my website or online review sites verbally.

Make It Simple for People to Get in Touch with You

In addition to reaching out to customers, I need to make it easy for them to contact me if they need to. I should include an email address, a phone number where they can talk to a real person, and social media accounts on my website. That way, if they have a question during a purchase or any concerns later on, they can easily and directly reach out to me.

Be Actively Present Online

It’s important for you to stay active on your website, blog, or social media. Why? Well, it’s simple really. When you’re active and engaged, people will be more likely to come to you if they have an issue instead of going straight to a review site. Sometimes, even if you have your email address clearly listed, people can feel a bit hesitant to reach out. But by attaching a face to your brand through blogging, using social media, or having an informative About page, more people might feel comfortable reaching out to you directly.

Let’s Keep an Eye on What People Post

No matter how amazing your service is or how easy it is for people to contact you, you might still come across a few negative reviews online. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us. But here’s a tip: use a tool like Google Alerts to keep track of what people are saying about your business. This way, you can take action if necessary and address any concerns or issues that come up.

Time to Respond to Those Negative Reviews ASAP

When you receive negative reviews, it’s important to respond promptly. Don’t become defensive or react angrily. Instead, try to offer a solution or at least explain your company’s perspective in a clear and professional manner.

Even if you can’t immediately fix the problem, it’s still important to acknowledge the review or comment and let the customer know that you’re working on resolving the issue. Then, follow up with them once the problem has been addressed.

Apologize

Most customers who have had a negative experience simply want an apology. Whether they reach out to you directly or leave an online review, it’s important to apologize. Even if you don’t believe your company did anything wrong, you can still express regret that they had a bad experience and express hope for improvement in the future.

Highlight Positive Reviews on Your Blog or Social Media

When it comes to feedback, you don’t have to limit yourself to just responding to negative comments. Why not share the positive reviews and feedback too? You could feature them on your blog or social media accounts. When people see others leaving positive reviews, they’re more likely to do the same. Plus, it helps customers feel a stronger connection to your brand.

Offer the Best Experience Possible

The key to getting great reviews is providing customers with an exceptional experience. Continuously strive to improve the customer experience by listening to their feedback and making necessary changes. After all, you can’t expect great reviews without offering a top-notch product or service in the first place.
