Yelp is a fantastic tool that can help small businesses like yours gain exposure and attract customers, especially on mobile devices. It offers a simple and cost-effective way to promote your company, and it’s not just limited to restaurants. Whether your business operates from a physical location or can benefit from local customers, Yelp is a platform worth exploring. It’s particularly useful for brick and mortar businesses.

So, here’s the deal. My business doesn’t really have a local presence that matters to people who use their mobile phones (or any customers at all, since I directly serve other business owners). Knowing this, I decided to give Yelp a test drive using my TechBizTalk brand, fully expecting not to be found.

As you can see in the screenshot above, my business didn’t show up. But look right below that! There’s a handy blue link that says Add Your Business to Yelp. That’s exactly what you need to click on. It will take you straight to Yelp’s small business page.

  • Want to make a special offer on Yelp? Create a Yelp Deal.
  • Need to send messages to your customers? Message Your Customers.
  • Curious about how your business is doing? Check out the Business Trends.

And hey, here’s something cool. You can actually see how word-of-mouth is working for you! Yelp provides stats and charts that measure the performance of your business page.

And guess what? You can create a free account right now. Just click on the button.

Once you find your business, get ready for a super easy and quick process. Take a look at this screenshot – you’ll see that it’s straightforward and won’t take much time. In just a few minutes, you’ll be all set up and ready to go. Unlike other review services, Yelp keeps things simple. They want you to verify your account and start participating in the community. It’s important to them that you get involved!

Alright, here’s the deal. You just gotta click on that fancy Add button and bam! Your listing is good to go.

But hey, listen up! There’s something important you need to know: Yelp needs to review your listing. They wanna make sure you’re not a sneaky spammer or pretending to own a company you don’t actually manage, you know?

So, if you’re really serious about getting your listing up and running, you gotta fill in all the blanks. Don’t forget to add your website address and phone number, ’cause once you hit that Add button, your listing is going live immediately. You won’t be able to make any changes until Yelp finishes their verification process. Now, I gotta be honest with you, it’s not gonna happen right away. It takes some time. So, please don’t mess around with incomplete information.

When it comes to Yelp advertising, I think there are mostly good things about creating offers. However, some people have complained that Yelp forces small business owners to pay for advertising. But let me explain what’s really going on.

Here’s the deal: if you have a free listing on Yelp, you might see ads from your competitors on the same page as your profile. It can be a bit annoying, I get it.

But here’s what you need to know: many other services do this too. Just think about Google, Facebook, and Twitter. When you search for something on Google, you’ll probably see ads at the top of the page. It happens all the time.

Here’s where Yelp has an advantage though. If you advertise with them, they give you the option to block your competitors’ ads from showing up with your profile. And let’s be real, who wouldn’t want that? Other platforms don’t offer that kind of control. So, I see it as a great opportunity, not as blackmail.

Running a business can be tough. And in a competitive market, every bit of help counts. That’s where Yelp comes in – they’re not doing anything wrong. In fact, they’re actually here to assist both retailers and service-oriented businesses like mine.

If you’ve been in the business for a while, chances are you already have a presence on Yelp with some customer reviews. That’s even more reason for you to claim and verify your listing. It’s important to take control of your online reputation.

I’ve read some insightful posts by Lisa Barone, who understands the benefits of Yelp for small business owners. She talks about how Yelp can be your best friend and how it demonstrates the power of mobile marketing. You should definitely check out their advertising program too.

So, how are you making use of Yelp? It’s a valuable tool that can help you reach more customers and grow your business.
